GOP Rep. Mark Souder is unhappy that the NRCC has been calling voters in Indiana's 3rd CD to slam Democratic challenger Tom Hayhurst's stance on immigration. The Hoosier conservative complains that the live callers have a heavy accent that is difficult to understand. Here's what he told Sylvia Smith at the Fort Wayne
Journal Gazette:
"Have you ever heard anything more stupid than having somebody whose accent you can't understand telling you to vote against somebody because they're for illegal immigration? I have never heard of anything more stupid in my life. It took me somewhere between one second and 60 seconds to be outraged," he said.
While the race may be close, Hayhurst is not expected to defeat Souder, who holds Dan Quayle's old seat. Souder swept into power during the Gringrich revolution, promising to serve only six terms. If elected this will be his seventh. He is the representative best known for the controversial Drug-Free Student Loan amendment, the Ronald Reagan Dime Act, and his pro-abstinence activism.
