Hey guys I just wanted to steer people to this
story in the Syracuse Post-Standard. Mr. Maffei is dealing with this race perfectly, I think.
A Maffei spokesman says in the above article, striking just the right tone I think:
The 3,943-vote gap between the candidates does not include as many as 13,000 paper and absentee ballots that have yet to be counted, according to Mike Whyland, Maffei's campaign manager.
Elections officials can accept more ballots until next Nov. 14, as long as they were postmarked by Nov. 6. That means, unless either candidate concedes, a winner won't be known until at least Nov. 15.
"We'll go though the process of recanvassing and counting every vote," Whyland said. "If it's clear that Mr. Walsh is victorious, we will congratulate him and concede defeat. But not until it's clear."
As 1 local talking head pointed out-in a normal year you could count on these ballots reflecting the regular vote-however this isn't a normal year. Mr. Walsh seems to recognize this:
"I'm obviously ahead," Walsh said Tuesday night. "We're not prepared to declare victory, but I'll tell you what, I bet we feel a lot better than the other guy right now."
I'm not saying Mr. Maffei is going to win, but there is a chance....
