I know we are not even 24 hours after polls have closed but we really need to start looking at further Senate pickups and where we need to hold seats in 2008.
I have listed all the seats that are up in 2008 (33) below and have found some possibilities for pickups but some dangers as well.
Safe Democrats (as long as no retirements) (7 Seats)
Carl Levin of Michigan
Dick Durbin of Illinois
Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey
Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia
Joe Biden of Delaware
John Kerry of Massachusetts
Tom Harkin of Iowa
Democrats who might need help (3 Seats)
Mark Pryor of Arkansas
Mary Landrieu of Louisiana
Tim Johnson of South Dakota
Safe Republicans (as long as no retirements) (11 Seats)
Chuck Hagel of Nebraska
Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina
Gordon Smith of Oregon
Jeff Sessions of Alabama
Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma
John Cornyn of Texas
Lindsey Graham of South Carolina
Mitch McConnell of Kentucky
Pat Roberts of Kansas
Thad Cochran of Mississippi
Susan Collins of Maine
Possible Democratic Pickups (8 seats)
John Sununu of New Hampshire
John Warner of Virginia
Lamar Alexander of Tennessee
Norm Coleman of Minnesota
Pete Domenici of New Mexico
Saxby Chambliss of Georgia
Ted Stevens of Alaska
Wayne Allard of Colorado
This would total 7 safe Democratic seats, 11 safe GOP seats, and 11 toss up seats with the GOP having to defend 8 of them. The candidate that the Democratic Party picks for President could be very important in picking up even more seats next time around.
