We have lived through 2 stolen with trepidation. My husband and I talked yesterday about what would happen if Americans felt it had been stolen. Fortunately, we didn't feel the need to revisit that discussion once the returns started to come in. It appeared that even if the fix was in, it wasn't a good enough one to negate the outrage of average Americans who were ready to say, "I'M MAD AS HELL; AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE."
The question is, "Was it a mistake or did the Repubs decide that this one was best to sit out and let the voters decide?" How many elections could one get away with stealing? With Bev Harris's "Hacking Democracy" recently airing on HBO, perhaps this year just wasn't the year for it?
Was Karl Rove sitting in his WH office racking his brain to think of other kinds of dirty tricks like the notorious 'robocalls' instead; hoping that they (and other things his nefarious brain could concoct) would be enough to do the trick. Was he thinking, "We'll just have to sacrifice the elections this time in order to discredit those who are so sure they know what we're up to and wait it out til it's REALLY important...like in 2008?"
I'm sure there's an explanation for it. Oh to be a fly on the wall to hear the conversations in the WH today! But then, I feel dirty just thinking about it!
What do YOU think? Were 2000 and 2004 truly stolen elections and if they were, why did they fail to steal this one? Are my theories possible?
