I am getting really tired of the media spinning that the Democrats won power because of the Iraq War. Iraq was only part of the picture.
Democrats WON because of corruption. The exit polls showed that corruption was the #1 deciding factor in voting.
Yes, Iraq, the needless war based on lies, was a wholly owned subsidiary of the big picture of corruption, but it was only part of the picture. The rest was...
(beneath the fold)
Halliburton
Obviously manipulated gas prices
Medicare and non-negotiation of prescription drug prices
Paying lip service to Katrina while using it to allow more no-bid contracts
Tax cuts for rich at the expense of the rest of us
Pervs running anti-perv programs
Religious right hypocrites and liars
K street
Jack Abramoff
Tom Delay
Ken Lay
Bob Ney
ay
ay, etc.
and the rest of the corruption of the Republicans.
If the Dems go along with the whole "It was Iraq" meme, nothing will be done about the corruption. In 2008, they'll be right back where they were 2 days ago. If they vow to "end corruption" -- everywhere, not just in Iraq -- they'll be seen by the country as the party that got our country off the treacherous road it was pursuing. But please, Democrats, see the BIG PICTURE. Don't get caught up in the trees and miss the forest!
And BTW: If the Democrats go along with this "bipartisan" meme Bush has been tauting, I'll be happy to see them go. We went 6 long years with a guy (Bush) who pretended to have a mandate. Well the Democrats ACTUALLY DO have a mandate as of yesterday. In addition, we have a lame duck president, getting lamer and weaker by the hour. Our leaders need to run with this. And if the Republicans are caught in the dust? Well let them eat dust and lie.
And BTW #2, Republicans, we are the DEMOCRATIC party, not the 'Democrat' party. Democratic party is the official name. If you want 'bipartisanship,' treat us and the name with respect. (Bush used Democrat party once again today, which is the dog whistle that he doesn't mean anything about the 'bipartisanship thing'.)
Thanks for letting me vent.
