I just read the very well written FP post by Georgia10 entitled newbie and was struck by the number of members here who responded that are in their twenties or so.
I have to admit that I had never thought of what it must feel like to someone of that age seeing this victory after the long dark spell that we have been going through. I am sure that it could even feel a bit like shock at first. However as it settles in and one can understand that this truly is the start of the long journey back down the road of sanity for our country if we can keep our eyes on the proper goals and hold true to them, then it is easy to envision the great things our nation can accomplish.
Please follow me below the jump for a few thoughts that my 68 years of living in this crazy world of ours has left in this muddled brain of mine.
A government entity by it's very nature is not and can not ever be a perfect, but ours for something over 200 years has been the best that is available to mankind. It is designed to serve us well and it will do just that as long as we the people guard it's principles and foundation vigilantly. It is only when we as a whole become too complacent or too involved to care and guard it that we begin to realize that the very foundation of our great nation can be destroyed. We have over the past six years come very close to seeing exactly that happen. I really think the full realization of just how close we were will not be felt by many until sometime in the future.
During every generation there are those who have attempted to twist or use the very nature of our freedoms to further an agenda that is not in the best interest of our nation as a whole. However during each generation there have been those unsung heros of freedom who have been vigilant enough to prevent our system from being completely derailed. I have been fortunate in the fact that I was witness to some of it several times over during my interesting life.
The thing I wish to really say to you, "younguns" is that the future is yours and the future of our Democratic party is in your hands. I am happy to say that I for one am very confident that you will prove to be very worthy of charge.
You have all made me feel even more proud that I am a Democrat and that we have a caring and thinking generation of young Democrats that are active and helping to form and shape a better world for all in our future.
God bless you and God has blessed the Democratic party and the world by giving us you.
Many thanks to you Georgia10 for all the inspiration you have given me and so many others with the insight that you have which never ceases to amaze me. I love you dear.
