Are you ready?
I'm still giddy from last night as I would imagine most of you are. I like how Speaker Pelosi rolls off the tongue as well as Majority Leader Reid. Admittedly it still sounds strange. You worked your asses off, you gave until your bank account was empty, you called until your cell phone ran out of minutes, you walked and knocked and traveled and proselytized until your body was sore, then you went on some more. In the end you won, you did more than win, you bested conventional wisdom. The talking heads gave you goals, told you what you could and couldn't do and you showed them up and told them to stuff it, and on the way to victory you gave a big huge finger to the wingnuts that have been driving this country off the cliff.
So enjoy the victory. It's sweet isn't it? Enjoy it now, for you have one huge challenge in front of you. One that the wingnuts failed miserably on.
You are now the "Big Tent Party". In case you hadn't noticed some pretty conservative people got elected last night with the D next to their name. Independents that had long abandoned the party came back in droves and people to the right of center who had never voted Democratic in their life voted straight Democratic tickets. These people are not liberal, however they gave the reigns to the Democrats.
Are you willing to listen to their ideas? Discuss and rationally debate with them? Consider their opinions? Or will you do like the wingnuts did and shut them out and shout them down. Will you accept that not everything you want the Democratic leadership to do will come to pass? Or even, be acknowledged? Are you willing to compromise?
Are you willing to show them that liberal is not the dirty word they've been told it was?
You have a huge opportunity here. You can unstick the pendulum that's been jammed to the right for way too long. You can balance America again. You can make the country great again, one that we all can be proud of. You can get this country moving again back to the direction where the majority of the people are. Help the poor and the middle class become prosperous once again instead of treading water or loosing ground. However, it's going to take a Big Tent to do this. Are you going to shun the new comers? Or accept them.
I know what I'm going to do, what about you
