-- I cross-posted this over at Street Prophets ---
Now that it is 1-December-2006; I thought it would be a good idea, (plus fun!) to start a thread on Christmas, Holiday themed and related movies. Basically, the rules, (loosely that is), are as follows
--- more under the fold ---:
Discuss movies that follow a theme of Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, the winter holiday season, or have a component thereof.
With that in mind, I will start a list that comes to my mind. I hope many of you will contribute some of your favorites within this thread too!
Direct Holiday theme:
---------------------
- Christmas Story, (You gonna shoot yer eye out!, plus, I love the electric leg lamp!)
- Muppets Christmas Carol, (Endearing Scrooge tale, gotta pick this one!)
- Mickey's Christmas Carol, (I like Jimminy Cricket)
- Bad Santa, (Yecch, at first glance, but later tale of redemption is good)
- Miracle on 39th Street, (sappy classic, I like it though)
- Nightmare Before Christmas, (juxtaposition of Halloween and Christmas, plus I like Tim Burton)
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas, (I really like Jim Carey, I really do!)
Stories where Holidays play role:
---------------------------------
- It's a Wonderful life, (some people think this is about Christmas! It is not, but good anyhow!)
- Die Hard, (Starts with an office Christmas Party, interesting Nakatomi Towers/Tree metaphor)
This is my short list to start. I think it would be interesting to see if there are movies that have Hannuka, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice celebration themes or references.
What are your favorites? Anything that sticks out that comes to mind?
