Democratic leaders declared a temporary moratorium on special-interest provisions known as earmarks as they attempt to cope with a budget crisis left by the outgoing Republican-led 109th Congress.
Now I know that we all think we have a lot of influence with our elected leaders – but perhaps all of you wish that you could wield as much influence as I do.
• If the Dems were smart (0 / 0)
I tell you if the Dems were smart (that is somewhat debatable) they should go into the 2008 budget and appropriations cycle with a mandate!
A moratorium on all earmarks and non attributed amendments to bills for one fiscal year. Use it as a campaign to bring in more senate candidates, etc, etc. Show them how the DEMs are not the party of Big Government and that we actually do have fiscal responsibility. Make it know that while they understand that their home towns need some Federal help - currently it is more important for the saftey and the soundness of our great nation that they do not appropriate any non-essential funds for 24 months.
Do not forget out of the 1/3 class up for re-election in 2008 - 20 out of the 33 are Republicans
