James Brown died last nite and I for one am sad. I loved his music. Nevermind his run ins with the law and women, the man was not way ahead of his time, he was right in the middle of it.
I hate lists and by no means is this one definitive. James Brown was SuperBad and when he sang he did so with a punch. So here is my list of the top 10 things James Brown ever said in order:
- I'm Black and I'm Proud
Remeber the MEmphis Garbage Strike?
Remeber their placards?
James gave everone a mental placard to carry proudly at
the right time
- "This is a man's world. But it would be nothing, Nothing without a woman to care"
Read the rest of the lyrics. Google them now. They're awesome.
b) "I don't really care what people think, ... I just do my own thing. ... I like being loud and letting people know I'm there."
James Brown started his OWN food Stamps with his own
money. What did he get in return? FBI harrassment.
Z) I want to say to you, Help yourself, so you can help someone else."
He led by example.
- "My expectations of other people, I double them on myself."
OK, good words to live by though hard for some, maybe
even James
- "Said the long-hair hippies and the afro blacks, They all get together across the tracks And they PARTY! Ho! On the good foot!"
Everyone! Together! Yeah!
g) "This is a revolution of the mind Get your mind together"
From King Heroin. Heavy in more ways than one.
e) "The one thing that can solve most of our problems is dancing."
When I listen to James Brown I know I shut up and dance.
- "Shake your money Maker"
We all (most) want to have fun and feel sexy
W) "I feel Good!"
Thank you. I do when I hear that song.
a) "Grits ain't groceries and Mona Lisa was a Man."
No explanation needed.
I know you all have your own Brown Favorites, so let me count it off and HIT ME!
