The Boston Globe, through Boston.com is reporting that Robert Gates has been confirmed by the Senate.
Obviously this was expected, though I am suprised at how quickly it was rushed through. Was the desire to move on from the Rumsfeld bullshit too much to think hard on this guy? Seriously. Did anybody ask about his connections to Iran Contra? Did they not matter? Just because he thinks we're not winning in Iraq he's a shoe in.
Well, I admit that I didn't follow too closely, so maybe someone could help me out here...
Update:I find it odd that no news channels are reporting this. Usually the MSM eats this kind of stuff up. The vote was 95-2. Two Republicans voted against the nomination; Rick Santorum and Jim Bunning. Still trying to find out who didn't vote.(Possible '08 contenders that don't want to leave a trail?)
I remember hearing that Gates was accused of pressuring intelligence analysts to develop conclusions that would fit the policy. Sounds familiar. So why was this guy let through so easily? Oh yeah...Dems are still acting like a bunch of pussies.
Update2:I'm not suggesting that Democrats stonewall Gates. There really shouldn't have been a huge battle over him. But there should have been SOME fuss over his shortcomings. He definitely has some.
