As my friend, Gary the Ogre, says,
"I just read the executive summary of the Iran commission. It has a number of good suggestions for diplomatic initiatives which are, unfortunately, no longer possible. Many of their suggestions should have been given top priority in the days immediately following 9/11. It’s pretty much too late now. US credibility is in the dumps and Bush has packed the government with thousands of political hacks, most of whom are incompetent to perform their jobs. Many of the most talented and experienced professionals have left government, many of them in disgust. Bush has driven the car over the cliff and the commission is talking as though improving his driving skills is still a viable option."
and more,
"Likewise, the report has a number of good suggestions for the so-called Iraqi government – at least they would have been good suggestions to implement immediately after the occupation. It’s way too late now. The Iraq assembled from disparate parts by Gertrude Bell and Ronald Storrs of the British Foreign Office in the 1920’s no longer exists – it’s lapsing back to the old and deep religious and tribal rivalries. Instability throughout the greater Middle East is growing by the day.
The report talks about building bi-partisan consensus in the USA on the issue. It’s a little late for that now following 6 years of a Republican majority that has done everything in its power to destroy consensus and label opponents as traitors and immoral swine.
It might not be sufficient but certainly a necessary first step that any solution include the resignation of George W. Bush. If that was in the report I missed it. There is no chance the Bush administration has the will, the capability, or the credibility to deal with this crisis – indeed, they are largely responsible for it."
How about it, should we call for the resignation of George Bush?
