I was reading on another blog that everytime Lieberman and Harold Ford reach out to John McCain, they make a McCain Presidency look more inevitable. By giving him the Cloak or Moderation they only endear him more to the pundi-mediocracy. I think that's exactly backwards.
Every Democrat should throw their arms around McCain like he was the last lifevest on the Titanic. While it's a long way to 2008, I think the only thing that prevents a McCain Presidency is his ill health or the Wingnuts. People like McCain. There are times I like him. I think he's genuinely concerned about the waste of earmarks for instance. But I don't want him to be President.
So let's see how many pictures we can get of John McCain with Hillary and Barack and Feingold and, oh yeah, Barney Frank. Let's co-sponsor legislation with him. How about the McCain-Clinton Budget Reform Act?
Then make sure that Brownback, Romney and Allen all have copies of the pictures.
If you think we hate Lieberman (and as a Connecticut resident, I've already pledged to work for Lamont), that's exactly the way the Republican primary voters feel about McCain.
We should make McCain the GOP's Lieberman, while ridding ourselves of the Democratic party's McCain.
