Earlier this month this community rallied behind me and helped push my campaign forward. I am honored to have received your support and this past week,
Democracy for America joined us in the fight.
Today we are just 21 Days away from election day and while so much has happened, we have so much more to do.
Your contributions, both via your time and money have been integral to making this happen.
At my headquarters in South San Antonio we have received repeated requests from supporters throughout the country asking what they can do to help. Today, I want to answer that...
The first thing I ask for, if you live in the district, is for your vote. If you don't live in the district, but know others who do, I ask that you encourage them to vote.
If you live in or around the district, you can make this happen - I urge you to join the many individuals who have come onboard and volunteer with us today.
If you can't volunteer, you can always contribute to the effort. Your donations have are earmarked for two main efforts. The first is media outreach.
Our early polling showed that once voters know the truth about my opponent, once they know the way he has voted, against the interests that matter most to them, his support disappears. Communicating our message is crucial for our success.
The other major factor in this race is that it will be decided by turnout - and while during the last election, Bexar County did not have a high turnout, this time around, we expect that those numbers will increase. Here's why:
This year we have two hotly contested primaries happening within the district, both for State Representative and State Senator. That means that in addition to our efforts, the efforts of these campaigns will drive voters to the polls and in Bexar County we know that close to 8 of 10 voters will support me.
Another thing is that Bexar County has the most potential to increase turnout. During the last election, Bexar's low voter turnout vs. Laredo's high turnout was a deciding factor in the election. This year, by increasing the percentage of voters who turn out by even a few points will make a huge difference.
I have been honored to receive the endorsement national political and grassroots organizations including the AFL-CIO and all the major national labor unions. These hardworking men and women have also been fighting for this district - working independently of my campaign, to make this happen.
...Labor has put together "a comprehensive plan" to unseat Cuellar and return Ciro Rodriguez, whom Cuellar narrowly defeated two years ago, to Congress.
"Every affiliate of the AFL-CIO is involved in this race -- every international is doing what it can to help," said Alicia Garza, president of the San Antonio AFL-CIO Central Labor Council. "This race has gotten national attention, so we have internationals who have sent people here to help."
All of this energy continues to propel the campaign forward and I look foward to sharing more of this with you as we move forward. In the next few days I will be sharing some of my newest literature and television spots.
Once again thank you for your support. This is a fight that we will win by working together, by showing that we will not allow the issues that matter to us to be ignored.
