I can hardly write this cause I'm bawling my eyes out. I'm watching a country where a whole lot of people that I love and respect and care about a lot, just sleepwalking to its death and there is nothing, not a fucking thing I can do about it.
I live in Australia, I can't vote, I can't give money I can't stand on a street corner and hold a placard, I can just type crap on this fucking machine and read stuff like this that tears me to shit.
Bush is a catastrophe, but Kerry is a disaster and America will get to December and have a choice but no options. Because whoever becomes the President this year will be a Bush President.
By that I mean he will have to deal with the effects of Bush's decisions. The next two or three terms are going to be defined and constrained and controlled by the runaway train that Bush has set in motion and America is going to have to make vast changes to cope with the damage.
And it is becoming increasingly obvious that the US can't make those decisions. The US will need a president who will willingly and in full knowledge of the possible consequences, put his balls on the block for his country.
There are only two people who can even contemplate doing that. One is Clark, who has been a soldier most of his life, I give him props for that. But he has no experience in government at all and precious little in diplomacy. That leaves Dean.
I think it is probably too big a problem for him as well, but in electing Dean America could at least say that it tried.
This is not about electability, it is about seeing reality and facing up to it and taking action and having the confidence to lead. Leading means being outside your comfort zone, it means taking risks, it means being able to inspire other people to make sacrifices.
Dean is doing that. Lots of people who are voting for him every day with the small amounts of money they can't afford to give. That is the kind of sacrifice that will be demanded of all Americans in the next decade. Not once, but again and again.
To stomach that sacrifice you have to be raised up by your leadership, you have to believe that they are doing their best and that they are sharing the risk.
If America can get Dean into the white house he will have already a couple of million cheerleaders spread throughout the community, he will also "be the president and the American kowtow will at least give him a head start. If Kerry gets in his voters will just turn back to what they were doing and leave him to fuck it up in his own way and scream in agony when it all goes bad.
If Bush gets back there will be martial law.
America has reached a fork in the road. To the right there is a 4 lane highway that runs till February 2005 then hits a wall, in the centre right there is a 4 lane highway that becomes a 3 lane, then a 2, then peters out in a dirt road at the edge of a desert within a year.
To the left there is a fucking jungle full of snakes and liana and no goddamned road at all. Not until you make it. America has reached the moment where it becomes a pioneering nation again, or it dies.
But with all this staring it in the face, the most important thing in America right now is Janet Jackson's tit. Kitty makes me weep, but Janet Jackson's tit makes me want to slit my wrists, because that's what is happening to my American mates.
This year is not an election, its a test. Don't let us down.
