In addition to forcing NASA to
bowdlerize unsettling scientific basics, like the Sun and Earth are doomed, Bush appointees
pressured NASA to spin reporting of data to bolster Bush's "re-election" in 2004.
"Top political appointees in the NASA press office exerted strong pressure during the 2004 presidential campaign to cut the flow of news releases on glaciers, climate, pollution and other earth sciences, public affairs officers at the agency say."
The enlistment of a government agency, one which claims on its website "Every NASA mission embodies the spirit of discovery", to misrepresent the truth to the public, or to delay reporting of it to provide a political advantage, is characteristic of the systemic dishonesty and anti-scientific cynicism of the Bush Regime.
From Michael Brown to George Deutsch, the Regime reveals its deep contempt for the socially-beneficial instruments of government. Bush wants and needs non-military departments of government to fail or to be treated as slaves to his policies, because he can in that case claim that the responsibility for providing social welfare (a word that literally means providing for "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness") should only be a local or individual concern, or worse, that it is a function best subsumed to military command and control.
The election of 2006 may be the last chance to reverse the movement of the United States toward fascism--many will argue it has been at that station for some time now. If Bush is allowed a full eight years, unchecked by any effective opposition, the model he will have established may be irreversible. Even if an opposition is elected, the notion that the Regime rules above and beyond all other agencies of government, and beyond all checks and balances, is every day more and more cemented in the national consciousness as a fait accompli.
History may not repeat itself, exactly, but there are trends in human behavior which are familiar. Look to the 1920s and 1930s and understand it took many years to prepare "democratic" Germany to become the monster it finally did. Fear, a deep lust for vengeance, and a disgust with the inefficiency of liberal governments, opened the door in Germany to the Nazis. The United States should be deeply concerned about becoming just such a beast. However, it seems so far to be merely bemused, or even enticed, by the prospect.
You should ask yourself. What agencies of government are already being enlisted to help the Regime secure its power in 2006?
What are you going to do about it?
