The Latest Quinnipiac poll is out, and it's not good news if you want Ned Lamont, or anyone else to unseat Joe Lieberman in the November elections.
When asked the question, do you approve of the way Joe Lieberman is handling his job, a strong 63% said yes they do, only 25% say no, they disapprove of his job performance, and only 11% said they didn't know. 71% of Republicans, 57% 0f Democrats, and 62% of Independents approve of Lieberman. 21% of Republicans, 30% of Democrats and 27% of Independents disapprove.
When broken down by gender, 60% of men and 66% of women approve, while 30% of men and 22% of women disapprove.
When asked to choose between Lieberman and Lowell Weicker for the Senate, 62% would pick Lieberman, while only 21% would pick Weicker. Broken down, 70% of Republicans would pick Lieberman, 63% of Democrats and 56% of Independents. Weicker would garner only 17% of Republicans, 26% of Democrats and 22% of Independents.
When you throw Ned Lamont in the race, Lieberman's margin of victory is even greater. 68% would pick Lieberman, while only 13% would pick Lamont. Broken down again by gender, 63% of men and 70% of women would choose Lieberman, while 20% of men and only 9% of women would choose Lamont.
A few other poll numbers worth mentioning. Republican governor Jodi Rell has an incredible 81% approval rating, and would crush any Democrat they throw at her.
President Bush is receiving dismal numbers for his support for the war here in Ct. 61% say going to war was a mistake, while only 34% approve of the war. Also, Bush himself has only 31% approval in this state, while 66% disapporve of the job he is doing, one of the lowest marks in the country.
Bottom line, while voters overwhelmingly disapprove of the war, and Bush in general, it doesn't seem to put much of a dent on Joe Lieberman's overall ratings. The numbers are strong, and represent very little change in either direction. He crushes both Weicker and Lamont in head to head battles. (Poll +/- 3.2%)
My opinion, give it up all you Lamont supporters. Joe Lieberman, dispite what some of you are thinking and saying on this website, is not in trouble, and will most likely cruise to victory come November. Lieberman will be a Senator as long as he wants to be.
