We need a back bone. I'm not one of the ones who say Democrats don't have a message, though I'll agree that it's weak. Don't get me started on media perception, I don't even know where to start. Focus, however is a different matter. It seems like if you get 5 Democrats to sit down and ask each in turn to give you the Democratic message you're likely to get 4-5 different versions. It's time that's fixed.
So why is this? My theory is the 'Kid in the Candy Shop' mentality. Send 5 kids into a candy shop each with a bag, tell them they can fill it with anything they want, and you'll have 5 bags with vastly different contents.
We've got too many issues that we care deeply about. I'm not saying that each issue isn't worthy of attention, we need to keep plugging our own individual causes; if not us, then who? At the moment, there's so many scandals, so many programs being cut, so much change needed, it's hard to stay focused. Every day I come to Kos, every day there's new outrage. I could spend all day responding to what I find on Kos, writing letters, making phone calls, sending emails. It's too much. It's like someone dumping a mail bag on your desk, there's no way to deal with that all at once.
We need to have 3-4 points... I dislike that term 'points', it mimics the republican 'talking points'. Principals are a better word to me. And they can not be relegated to democratic principals, they are first and foremost, American Principals.
1: Justice
2: Security
3: Personal Freedom
They need work, perhaps they simply take the mantra "Liberty, Justice, and the American Way.", but whatever they become, they become the framework, the foundation on which each individual cause stands.
