I've been thinking a lot about the Dubai Ports World issue, snarking here and there, and it occurs to me that a quick resolution to the issue in our favor is not, arguably in our interests.
Part of the reasoning is that, of course, I want to see the f**kwit in the White House suffer for a while, but in considering the current issue alongside the Miers nomination, there's a significant factor in common:
It hurts the GOP in fundraising.
For years now, the GOP has been sustained by a powerful fundraising machine among other things, and when the base gets angry, they stay home. So let's try to arrange matters so that the base remains alienated for as long as possible - it'll help us at midterms.
Personally, I'm sure the President will not reconsider. At least not until he considers the first time, which as of now has yet to happen. And I'm likewise astonished that a British company was doing that job. Why wasn't the TSA doing that job? Let's have hearings. Let's settle this important matter of national security.
But, not, you know, real real fast. I think it needs to smart for a while, yet.
