Ben Goshi touched on this news
here.
This diary explores the difference between the rigid, one sided 'journalism' of the AP, and the balanced, 'we report what we're told and you decide' reporting of CNN. First the facts, and I hope you're sitting down:
Grampa Munster has passed away.
Now the liberal media reports one side of the issue.
First, as the
liberal AP reports:
Al Lewis, the cigar-chomping patriarch of "The Munsters" whose work as a basketball scout, restaurateur and political candidate never eclipsed his role as Grandpa from the television sitcom, died after years of failing health. He was 95....
Just two years short of his 90th birthday, a ponytailed Lewis ran as the Green Party candidate against incumbent Gov. George Pataki. Lewis campaigned against draconian drug laws and the death penalty, while going to court in a losing battle to have his name appear on the ballot as "Grandpa Al Lewis."
Good enough. Now, here's CNN's balanced reporting- first the headline from the front page:
"Grandpa `Munster' Dies At Age 83"
Notice that only `Munster' is in quotes, not `Grandpa Munster'. Nice editing.
Now, I click the link on the front page and read, once again: Grandpa 'Munster' dies at age 83
The article states:
Al Lewis, the cigar-chomping patriarch of "The Munsters" whose work as a basketball scout, restaurateur and political candidate never eclipsed his role as Grandpa from the television sitcom, died after years of failing health. He was 83.
Then the CNN article continues:
Just two years short of his 90th birthday, a ponytailed Lewis ran as the Green Party candidate against incumbent Gov. George Pataki.
Nice to see that CNN wants to have respect for his age, and allows that Al Lewis could have been either 83 or 95. I would have included additional balanced articles stating that he was 42 and 969, but I have to go to work.
And that concludes my waste of space semi-annual diary.
