I am absolutely floored by the results of the vote -- right here in the Kos Community -- on child beating.
Nearly More than half of the responses were that it is sometimes OK to beat (spank) your child.
See it here after Cheers and Jeers:
I have three children, ages 2 to 7 and I have never once beaten any of them. Not only that, I have never once wanted to, never mind needed to.
Beating your children teaches them several things:
Bigger and stronger people get to beat up littler and weaker people.
Violence is the way adults solve their problems with other people.
Bigger and stronger people derive their authority over littler and weaker people solely from violence or threat of violence.
When I get big and strong I get to show littler and weaker people who is boss by beating them up.
When I get to be president, I'm going to start a war for no good reason.
Got it?
(Just a bit more below the fold)
Every study done comparing children who are beaten by their parents vs. children who are not has found that the children from violence-free households are no more poorly-behaved. Quite the contrary -- children who are beaten by their parents have issues with anger and trust that they carry with them their whole lives.
Child beating is for authoritarians and fascists. Progressives should discipline their children through love and not violence.
Break the cycle, folks!!!
