As a california constituent, I am quite angry that my normally well-reasoned and intelligent Senator has voted to clear the way to re-authorize the Patriot Act. I call upon my fellow Californians to call her local or Washington DC offices and register their sentiments. The small short list of those opposed to the revised Patriot Act's re-authorization should include Barbara Boxer, but it does not.
Raw Story lists the 4 courageous members of the Senate that voted against this bill:
Byrd (D-WV)
Feingold (D-WI)
Harkin (D-IA)
Jeffords (I-VT)
If you are a Californian, please call her office and let her know how you feel. If not, please use this link to find your Senator and give them a call.
I expected as much from Feinstein, but Boxer? Contact numbers available on the flip ...
[updated]
One of the comments pointed out that the vote for re-authorization was not today, but the vote was for the modified version which will come be voted on in the next few days. You can read the Bloomberg article
here. I have modified the title to reflect this.
The good news is that we can still effect our Senators votes on the overall act. All Democrats should be opposed to the re-authorization of this terrible attack on our civil liberties.
