Above is a link to a BBC interview with Leftenant Commander Sean Kelly of the U.S. Northern Command.
This was just a few days after Katrina hit.
A few of us saw it, and it was diaried here, but in the media frenzy it didn't get the attention it deserved. Not only that but Bushco quickly started their distraction routine by pointing fingers at everyone but them (accusing them of pointing fingers no less).
In this clip, Sean Kelly says the most damning thing I've yet heard regarding Bush, and Katrina. It is, I believe, testimony to the fact that Bush, as commander in chief, was derelict in his duties, and the result was that countless people died.
What happens in the military when someone is "derelict of duty" and the result is the wrong people DIE?
I've transcribed it below the fold:
BBC Anchorwoman: The relief effort is being coordinated by the U.S. Northern Command in Colorado. Leftenant Commander Sean Kelly explains how the relief effort is being organized.
Sean Kelly: US Northern Command is the Command that coordinates the military support for our federal and state agencies. And they call up and they request the capabilities and we try to provide that capability, whether it's medical resources, search and rescue helicopters, food, water, transportation, communication -- that's what we provide.
Right now we've got four thousand soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and coastguardmen supporting this. They've delivered more than 9 million meals, I can't remember how many millions of litres of water ...
BBC ANNOUNCER: 9 million meals? Do you actually have 9 million meals?
SEAN KELLY: It's those Meals Ready to Eat, those packaged meals the Army takes with them out into the field, we've got 9 million of them ready, I know at least 100,000 went to the Superdome the other night, to help those people there in New Orleans, so they're staged at various places throughout Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama.
BBC ANNOUNCER: I'm sure you're aware of the criticism that the authorites have been slow to respond to this. When did Northcom get the order to start relief work?
SEAN KELLY: Northcom started planning (emphasis his) before the storm even hit. We were ready for the storm when it hit Florida, because remember it crossed the bottom part of Florida, and then we were planning once it was pointed toward the Gulf Coast. So we activated what are called Defense Coordinating Officers to work with the States to say okay, what do you think you will need? And we set up staging bases that could be started, we had the U.S.S. Bataan sailing almost behind the hurricane so that when the hurricane made landfall its search and rescue helicopters would be available almost immediately. So we had things ready. The only caveat is that we have to wait unitl the pres authorizes us to do so. The lawas of the united states say that the military can't just act in this fashion, we have to wait until the pres gives us his permission.
I thought this might be a good time to revisit this.
A lot has happened since. The videotape of Bush being told about the storm made me realize that Bush couldn't claim ignorance -- even though that ignorance would be utterly inexcusable -- and worse, it made me realize that the only possible excuse for Bush's neglect of this crisis is because it was DELIBERATE.
If you've seen the videotape of Bush and his cronies being warned of the storm, and the fashion in which it happened, you KNOW they told Bush about the U.S. Bataan, about Northcom's other work, and you can BET YOUR ASS somebody reminded Bush that he was supposed to CALL AND GIVE THE ORDER.
He was not only derelict of duty, he was derelict by choice. Deliberately and premeditatively let people die.
"Let the losers drown" was their motto.
