NEW DELHI, India (CAP) - White House officials were scrambling today to minimize the damage after President Bush and his entourage showed up in New Delhi wearing traditional Native American tribal costumes.
More below the fold...
"While I was always the cowboy growing up, I've always admired the Indian people," Bush told a bemused crowd at the New Delhi airport. "The Indians are a good people, a strong people, a gentilized people. They stand next to us, shooting arrows into the hearts of the terrorists."
"They are the Tonto to my Lone Ranger, heh heh," President Bush added.
"Yeah, that one kind of got away from us," said a White House aide on condition of anonymity. "At the very least, American Indian costumes and ponies for 25 on the 'must bring' list should have rung a bell somewhere along the line."
Another aide was more blunt in his evaluation of the incident. "If you don't sit on dipshit, dipshit is going to do shit. It was a breakdown in babysitting, pure and simple."
Earlier in the day the President paid a surprise visit to Afghanistan, where he praised the Afghans for their "strong commitment to the war on terror, and your lovely blankets."
