Jared Lash (my fiance) and I went to the polls today to vote in the primaries. When we got there, his name was not on the list. They even looked in all the different precinct books to make sure he was not misfiled. Nothing.
So, we called the county clerk's office. It was an interesting call, to say the least...
Jared and I go to college. When we heard of all the voter fraud going on with absentee ballots during the '04 presidential elections, we registered at our school, which is 4 hours away from our hometown.
When Jared called the county clerks office, he was told that their records show that he is registered back home. Now, he hasn't registered since '04, and he never received a card from back home, so that was wierd enough in and of itself. But here's the kicker: the records show that he registered at home exactly 3 days before he registered here. That is impossible, as he was not physically there. He was here, 4 hours north of home, with no means of transportation.
This is making no sense to me. How could he be showing that he is registered back home when their records clearly show that he registered here 3 days after that? And when he moved, why did he not get a card? When I moved, I got a card in the mail saying that they could not verify my address and asking me to write down my address and send it back. Why did he get nothing like that? He moved the same day I did.
I'm trying not to jump to conclusions here. Maybe papers got shuffled about. But something just doesn't seem right. I'm sure it's too late to do anything about voting today, but I want to know what to do in case something like this happens in the future.
Thanks for reading,
Kristen
Update: Jared is trying to get ahold of the mayor, who also happens to be our precinct representative. No luck yet, but he's going to keep trying.
