For the next few days, Californians will have the opportunity to support some of the heroes opposing the war in Iraq.
The California March for Peace is on the way to points in the San Joaquin Valley, then on to the Monterey Bay area, the South Bay, and finally, San Francisco.
You can help out!

Here's the approximate overview.
The march is being lead by Latino leaders, with a nod to moral giants Ghandi, and Cesar Chavez. The mileage echoes Ghandi's famous Salt March.
Among the leaders are,
Fernando Suarez Del Solar
...the father of one of the first Latinos to die in Iraq. He was lied to about his son's death, found the truth in Iraq with the help of a well know recent victim of the war, (co-anchor of ABC's World News Tonight) Bob Woodruff. His son Jesus stepped on an illegal US cluster bomb. Since then Fernando is a tireless advocate for peace.
and some of the guys with the biggest balls in CA, including
Pablo Paredes (
link):
Navy war resister who refused boarding an Iraq bound ship on Dec. 6th 2004. He was court martialed, sentenced and now speaks out for Peace.
Now
that's a sacrifice!
Also on the march are
Camilo Mejia, who
Served one tour in Iraq and then became a National Guard war resister. He was jailed for nine months for his opposition to the war and is now a prominent anti-war speaker and member of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW).
and
Aidan Delgado, who
Is a Conscientious Objector of the Iraq war. He served at Abu Gharib and now tours the country with slide shows of the prison abuses.
Can you imagine a group with higher moral stature deserving of our support?
I spoke with organizers a short time ago, who said that the schedule is quite fluid, but they'll be
- in the Tehachapi area tomorrow, likely to march to the UFW's office, and to recognize the Chavez resting site in Keene (La Paz)
- Fresno on Friday (Schadenfreude opportunity! Give a Freeper a stroke!)
- Watsonville on Saturday
Here's where YOU come in:
Show up(!) and pat them on the back. Tell 'em, "good job!" and "thanks!" (And if you go, post pics and a diary here at dKos)
Call your local newsrooms to give them the heads-up.
Write LTEs to your local papers.
It is, after all, up to us to help these leaders do their jobs, and get this in front of other Californians and Americans.
Updates are being blogged here, and I'll be sure to post updates at dKos as I hear of them.
Let's promote this, and see what CA Kossacks can do.
