In the same edition that posted that
wonderful editorial lambasting Bush, the Star Tribune posted an
article about the growing talk about impeachment. In fact, the headline reads "Parties jockey as impeachment talk grows"
As Democratic Rep. Jim Oberstar travels in and out of Minnesota, he says he's hearing one question over and over again, "When is Congress going to impeach this president?"
More below.
The article appears below the fold, but it's still front paged. The first few paragraphs discuss how some Democrats aren't ready to vote for impeachment, but feel that the issue still needs to be investigated. The rest of the story is continued on A14, sharing space only with a Sprint cell phone advertisement.
The article mentions that Minnesota is one of the top 4 states with co-sponsors (3) of the investigation bill.
They even accurately report polling data
A Newsweek poll found this week that 26 percent of Americans want Congress to take action to impeach Bush. In January, a poll by Zogby International showed that 52 percent of Americans said Congress should consider impeaching Bush if he wiretapped citizens without court approval.
The article mentions again that some Democrats feel that impeachment is premature. Harry Reid is quoted saying we're not near impeachment, but in the very next paragraph mention Bush's record low poll numbers (36% according to Newsweek).
They close with some great quotes...the first by MN GOP Chair Ron Carey, and the rebuttal by Rep. Oberstar.
Ron Carey, chairman of the Minnesota Republican Party, criticized Oberstar for his "irresponsible and reckless call for an impeachment committee," saying he had joined "the far-left fringe of his party."
Oberstar laughed it off: "Maybe they ought to go up to Ely. ... I would say my approach has been conservative compared to what I'm hearing in the real world."
