I just came across the post from last night on Lieberman and Obama, and since it's already a pretty old post, I wanted to point out in a separate diary that Obama actually trashed Lieberman, calling him a Republican, on the Al Franken Show back in November, I believe. You can get the
podcast free if you go to this link or just look it up on iTunes.
He said, when talking about Iraq:
"We should work on a bi-partisan basis. Joe Lieberman and uh, the rest of the Republican Party." The crowd went "oooh" and Franken said "I- I got the joke..."
Then, as we all know now, he said this at the
Connecticut Democratic Party Dinner the other night:
"I am absolutely certain Connecticut is going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the U.S. Senate so he can continue to serve on our behalf," he said.
I am a big Obama fan and this really disappoints me, as I know it does many others. I for one don't plan on writing him off on this one error, but I certainly am not too happy about it. But I'm not a constituent.
If I was, I would call or write Obama's office and point out these conflicting statements
and say I am very disappointed in this endorsement, and I want to know why he would support Lieberman if he thinks he's acting like a Republican, as he said on Franken, joking or not. Why not sit it out? This is a disappointment for someone who I've had very high hopes for as someone who will be consistent and strong about his convictions.
Those who are disappointed but unwilling to throw the baby out with the bathwater should do something like this, if you live in Illinois.
