This conversation happened yesterday afternoon between a friend and her son, age eight, while listening to a report about the Guantanamo detainees on NPR.
Son: Mom, isn't it illegal to keep someone in jail that long?
Mom: Yes, I think so.
Son: Then the police should come and tell them to let those people go!
Mom: Hmm. The problem is that it is the government holding those people.
Son: But that's illegal!
Mom: I know, honey. I agree--it's a shameful thing.
Son: Someone should read those people the Constitution!
