SANTA CRUZ -- Tuesday's anti-war protest that drove military recruiters from the UC Santa Cruz campus is drawing national attention and ridicule from conservatives and has even led to personal threats to both students and Chancellor Denice Denton.
The backlash came to a peak on "The O'Reilly Factor" Thursday when UCSC grad Mason Cohn squared off with critics who were calling for federal funds to be yanked from the university because of the protests.
In the meantime, UCSC students and officials are fielding threatening messages. Campus police are looking into a call, described as a "death threat," directed toward a member of the Students Against War, which organized the protest, according to campus spokeswoman Liz Irwin.
