If you had any doubts that the national leaders of the religious right are bankrolling the effort to put a same-sex marriage ban in Colorado's state Constitution, as they say back east: fugghedaboudit.
Coloradans for Marriage filed its financial report with the Secretary of State today, and 70 percent of their reported donations came from major religious right groups--including Focus on the Family, Focus' former president, and the congregation led by the president of the National Association of Evangelicals. You can see the entire report by clicking here.
Specifically, you'll see that:
- Focus on the Family made two donations totaling $37,500.
- Former Focus President (and former Reagan Interior Secretary) Don Hodel contributed $2,500
- New Life Church of Colorado Springs, home church of Rev. Ted Haggard, President of the National Associations of Evangelicals contributed $6,000
- Marilyn Hickey Ministries, a nationally prominent congregation based in Englewood, contributed $1,000.
Will Coloradans for Marriage continue to deny that the Constitutional ban on same-sex marriage is all about putting a specific religious view into our Bill of Rights?
