I received an email from Barbara Boxer's PAC for a Change. I'm a big supporter of Sen. Boxer, so I always take the time to actually read her emails (unlike many of the others I receive that go straight in the trash). This email brags about her PAC raising $68,000 or so for Sen. Bill Nelson. A great accomplishment, and if I remember correctly his fundraising has been unbelievable so far.
For those that are unfamiliar, the way she chooses which candidate to support with her PAC is that she allows people to go to her website and vote for 1) A Dem Incumbent, and 2) A Dem Challenger. Currently Rep. Chet Edwards from TX-17 is winning the incumbent race with 20% of the votes. Now on to what pissed me off.
Before I voted, I had a little extra time this morning, work is a little slow, and I have to admit I knew nothing about Chet Edwards. So I took a trip to his website to see what the deal was about. First thing I looked for on the first page of
http://www.chetedwards.com is does he call himself a democrat? Nope sure doesn't. No mention of being a democrat at all.
Well ok. He's in Texas. Guess he's worried that calling himself a democrat, much less a liberal, might cost him a few votes. Because we all know what pinko commie fags those liberals are.
Second, lets learn about some issues. First issue, http://www.chetedwards.com/... National Defense.
Chet is a strong supporter of the war on terrorism and voted to authorize President Bush to use force in Iraq.
Hmm...not off to a good start there Chet. And your proud of that vote? How many Americans and innocent Iraqis has that vote help kill? Oh and where were those WMDs? Oh yeah...it was oil. My bad.
So lets skip along to the next few issues. http://www.chetedwards.com/... The issue of the economy and the national debt.
Chet is working to reduce our growing $8 trillion national debt, which will lead to high interest rates and drive up the costs of building a business, buying a home or car and is morally wrong to pass on to our children and grandchildren.
Hey you know that sounds great. I personally believe that the greatest threat to our national security is our incredible debt level. So how are you going to reduce that debt, Chet? http://www.chetedwards.com/...
Chet Edwards has voted for 60 major tax cuts in Congress, totaling over $3.7 trillion. Some of the tax cuts Chet has voted for include:
A permanent repeal of the unfair Death Tax
A permanent repeal of the Marriage Penalty Tax
Tax cuts for middle class families
Reduction of capital gains taxes
Elimination of capital gains taxes on the sale of a home when the appreciation was less than $500,000
Faster depreciation on capital purchases for small businesses.
Chet, Chet, Chet. What am I going to do with you? In one issue you whine about the debt being too large, and in the second issue you talk about how you support the policies that put us in such a horrible position. Is repealing the Paris Hilton tax going to fix the debt problem? Maybe reducing capital gains on millionaires will though, right? Kiss that Bushite ass Chet.
Lets skip along, I'm starting to get a little nauseous. How about education? http://www.chetedwards.com/...
Chet wants to fully fund the No Child Left Behind Act, so that local school districts have the resources to meet high standards and help alleviate the heavy property tax burden on Texas homeowners.
Well now that certainly makes sense. Where the hell are you going to get the money from to do that? You voted to slash taxes, voted to support Bush and his military adventures in Iraq which is costing how many billions of dollars a month? Oh and you just said, if we voted for you, you would get us out of debt. Where's the money coming from for NCLB, Chet?
Next category, Mr. Trebeck. Healthcare! http://www.chetedwards.com/...
Chet favors cracking down on lawyers who file frivolous medical malpractice lawsuits that drive up costs.
I don't think I even have to dignify that with a response. Where did this idea come from?
And finally lets hit local issue to Texas. Lets play the I'm a cowboy too! card. Worked for Bush, might as well work for Chet. http://www.chetedwards.com/...
Chet has successfully fought ill-advised regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service that would have trampled on private property rights and harmed Texas farmers and ranchers.
Evil EPA. Evil Fish and Wildlife Service. Always trying to stomp on the little man.
I will give credit where credit is due, however. And Chet did decide to go against Bush on one issue. An issue that is now dead and will forever be dead, since Bush received absolutely no support for it, even after trying to shove it down our throats. Chet is against the privatization of Social Security. So if this is where he decides to make his stand against Bush, this was pretty gutless, as the issue was already dead.
1 out of 7 issues isn't bad, right? I mean, if I were to agree with the Republicans 6 out of 7 times (or 86% of the time) and agree with Democrats 1 out of 7 (or 14% of the time) well that would certainly make me a Democrat wouldn't it?
Come on people. We can do better than this. I know he runs as a dem. And I know that we need to retake the House. But good grief. Is this honestly the best we can do in the TX-17? I'm sick of "Bush Ass Kissing" Dems.
