The filing deadline for precinct delegate candidates is Tuesday May 16 at 4PM.
Long gone are the days of gathering signatures from neighbors on petitions. A prospective candidate only has to fill out an affidavit at their municipal clerks office and offer proof of identity, such as a drivers license. The clerk's office will notarize the affidavit and send it to the county.
That's it my friends. That's all it takes to get on the ballot in August. It took less than ten minutes of my time once I arrived at the Canton Township hall this afternoon. And some of that time was chatting about the gorgeous weather with the friendly public servants behind the counter.
How many votes does it take to win? One (that would be yours) is enough if there are no contests. And, in most cases there aren't.
If you want more info , you can go here to the Secretary of State's web site. Don't bother with the downloadable form though unless you can get it notarized outside the clerk's office and want to mail it in. When you arrive, the clerk's office will give you a triplicate form to fill out, and give you one of the copies for your records.
Not sure what precinct you live in? Look at your voter registration card, or just ask when you get to the clerk's office.
So what are you waiting for? Go fill out the affidavit next week. Please.
