Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D., NY), my Representative, was walking with the marchers in Manhattan today. I noticed her walking with the rest of us, with one aide, and she was willing to discuss and open about her position on the war.
I asked her what was being discussed in Congress as the best way out of this mess, and she said the Murtha approach made the most sense to her.
We spoke briefly about the "Fighting 69th," and how proud she was of the local guys' and gals' service in Iraq. She mentioned their mission of protecting the airport road in Baghdad, and the 16 deaths protecting it. I mentioned that I had read reports that the road was named "Irish Road" in memory of the bloodshed of the soldiers from Lexington Avenue. flip..
I briefly mentioned to her that I have been gathering information on the death-rates of reserve versus regular army units in Iraq. I plan to get the results of my research to her and this list.
It was kind of surreal to speak to a member of Congress, an elected leader of this country, with whom I agreed, whom I admired for her courage on several issues, not only the war, but choice and immigration as well.
