WASHINGTON (CAP) - Days after Condoleeza Rice admitted that the administration had made thousands of errors in the Iraq war - and then tried to claim that she had been speaking figuratively - the White House is taking a new tact to try and diffuse the situation.
"I meant 'Eeyores', not 'errors'," Rice told CAP News in a recent phone interview. "And by that I mean that there are a lot of brooding gusses out there who refuse to see anything positive about the war. We, on the other hand, remain upbeat. We are Tiggers - Boing! Boing! Boing!"
More Pooh below the fold...
Press Secretary Scott McClelland kept up the meme. "Secretary of State Rice often reads Winnie The Pooh books to the President when she sleeps over - in one of the guest rooms. They both love the message of Pooh, and often call each other 'honey'."
"I think Condi's comment was very valid," Vice President Dick Cheney said at the dedication of a shooting range outside of Dayton. "Look at the symbol of our opposition. Case fucking closed. Now watch this shot."
"Pooh, heh heh," President Bush said as he supervised brush clearing at the White House for this year's first upcoming T-ball game. "That's one of them funny words."
Even governmental websites are falling prey to what one political analyst is calling "psychotic overspin". What few mentions of abortion still existing on government-run sites now feature an image of the young kangaroo Roo with a tear sliding down its face. A reference to or image of Owl now appears on almost half of the 13,280,016 pages mentioning President Bush's "wise stewardship". And Rabbit is used on Homeland Security pages to show why we should all be neurotically worried about terrorists and duct tape.
"This Secretary of State is definitely a Tigger," Senate Majority leader Bill Frist said as he sprang to Rice's defense on the floor of the senate. "She's probably the most enthusiastic Tigger this administration has. From her Tigger hair to her Tigger toes, she's Tigger through and through."
Representatives for the company controlling the estate of AA Milne are planning to file an injunction by the end of the week.
