Someone on DKos posted a diary the other day about the "class war". However, as this article clearly demonstrates, class transcends party lines. When the wealthy are threatened it doesn't matter if you are Republican or Democrat, they unite together to defeat their common enemy. In this case, their enemy is alternative energy.
Wind farms are without a doubt a one of the best potential sources for alternative energy as we start sliding down the slope after hitting peak oil. However, as this article from Reuters demonstrates, we are going to have an up hill battle to get them set up in the best windy areas. Why? Well, let's face it, some of the best areas to harvest the wind are also some of the prime locations for rich people to build their summer homes and retirement homes. And far be it for us to expect rich people to have to look at wind farms while summering in the Cape or living out there remaining years on a mountain.
We have a similar problem in Maryland right now. There have been individuals interested in putting up wind farms out in Western Maryland where the mountains are. However, the rich people who have built their retirement homes out there are upset because they don't want to have to look at the wind turbines.
So to answer the question I posed in the title...
What does Ted Kennedy and Mit Romney have in common? They are both rich and don't give a shit about alternative energy if it means it might spoil their view from Cape Cod.
