I have this sick feeling in my stomach. I just called both of my Senator's offices to express my discontent with the NSA's Domestic Wiretapping program. As I dialed the numbers on my cell phone I couldn't help but feel like everything I was about to say was going to be recorded. Maybe reviewed someday. I wonder what political conditions would have to exist for Liddy Dole or Richard Burr to stand up for the rule of law - to stand up and say that the President is not above the law. That is what I asked them to do.

I watched Newt Gingrich on Meet the Press yesterday. He basically said that if we discovered a network of terrorists in the United States, wouldn't we be foolish not to have established a way of tracking their contacts? Well, of course Newt... We'd all be perfectly safe if we'd just surrender all of our rights to the government to monitor all of us all the time, right? No more deciding on a whim to go check out a matinee - I'll notify the local authorities at least 24 hours in advance before I go anywhere or do anything. Totalitarianism is Security is Freedom? They say they'll protect us from the terrorists but who will protect us from them?
What person in their right mind is actually comfortable with the idea of the government listening to their phone calls and tracking their social network? We've seen what this administration will do to quell dissident speech among those with power - what would stop them from selectively conducting campaigns against the rest of us who express disagreement with their policies?
