Just wanted to give people a heads up on an important primary that hasn't received much notice until Cillizza's column today - Representative Ed Case (D-HI) has decided to run against one of the countries most consistent progressive voices, Senator Daniel Akaka - his rational for the run? Akaka's Age. Maybe there is truth to the phrase "Older And Wiser"?
A battle royal has begun in Hawaii between a progressive anti-war Democratic incumbent and a pro-war Democratic primary challenger.

There's more...
It seems Representative Case's age, and limited experience, WILL be an issue in this primary race as it lends itself to misguided positions on issues vital to Hawaii, this country and the Democratic Party.
"Case says he's been largely nonpartisan. In 2003, voting studies show he supported the president about 35 percent of the time. He voted to finance homeland security, defense and the Iraq war, and supported indecency fines against broadcasters." [Honolulu Advertiser, 5/10/04]
"But what might otherwise be an interesting policy disagreement between two friendly Democrats could turn into something more now that Akaka and Case are facing each other in the September primary for the U.S. Senate. The liberal Akaka and the more moderate Case mostly agree on Hawai'i issues, so voters likely will have to look to national or foreign policy to find differences, and Iraq could be the most substantial." [Honolulu Advertiser, 3/6/06]
And the differences don't stop there... Case stands with Bush on the Patriot Act, Torture, and most recently the $70 billion tax cut for millionaires...
