I'm in a state of high dudgeon, but with this crew in DC that's a daily occurence in my house.
Today, however Robert B. Bluey, editor of Human Events Online went too far.
He attacked Elizabeth Edwards for writing "vile" comments about Republicans on the Senator's blog and engaging in "cold-hearted liberal attacks". So after reading this piece by Bluey, I kind of went kablooey.
The editor of the online publication calls Edwards out for being an "irresponsible blogger." John Edwards: Irresponsible Blogger = Irresponsible President? The article says that Mrs. Edwards is engaging in vile attacks against Republicans because of a diary she wrote last week.
Here's the set-up from Human Events Online:
If you're unfamiliar with the One America for All of Us blog on former Democrat VP candidate John Edwards' website, it's about time you checked it out. Once there you'll get a glimpse of the vile things that Edwards' wife and his supporters think about Republicans.
Then he starts in with Elizabeth Edwards for this blog entry from last week:
Unbelievable But True because she had the temerity to question Mr. "Bottoms Up" deal with the local police to keep the shooting hush hush and delay his interview until he could sleep it off.
Here's the entire post by Mrs. Edwards:
There was a terrifically entertaining post on the Huffington Post the other day about the truly unbelievable things that have happened in this administration, things that test the boundaries of disbelief. The author suggested some unbelievable-but-true story lines that really got me laughing (or crying).
"Failed Arabian Horse Consultant Chosen To Run FEMA?" No, that couldn't be true.
"Twenty-four Year Old College Dropout Approved by White House To Rewrite Government Scientist's Research?" You're making that up.
"Texas Sheriff Sees No Reason To Question Vice President Who Drank a Beer Then Shot a Guy in the Face?" Ridiculous.
And yet, they are all true. So, although I have no prizes to offer - except the satisfaction of being devilishly clever - I thought our community here could have some fun with this.
There is a wealth of material out there. Let's hear your unbelievable-but-true story lines. Talk among yourselves.
That's all of it. That's the vile and "cold-hearted liberal attacks" on Republicans that
that woman spews over at
that blog. I mean, honestly, it was a snarky Friday thread - that's all.
The unwarranted attack against Mrs. Edwards aside, the editor of Human Events Online reveals to all of us that "these guys ain't so bright". He doesn't understand how a blog works, not remotely, even though he's the editor of an online publication. He thinks that Edwards can and should censor or filter or approve of everything written on the OAC blog. Frankly, I'm a big supporter but I'd be shocked if the guy even knew how to host a picture or embed a video with some html.
The author of the hit piece chooses to single out a "Rove might be indicted" thread from Monday. He prints these comments from OAC bloggers
ThunderHawk: I'll believe it when I hear it from Fitzgerald. Until then, I'm just hoping for bad KKKarma for KKKarl, the nazi pig.
Im4JRE: I thought I read you saying Rove was indicted and was just getting ready to jump up and down...lol! Hope it won't be long before this comes to past and some of the other henchmen go down this path also. :>)
MGC: It is appalling that the man (Rove) is so highly regarded in Republican circles. Boy, we have really sunk low as a country when we revere a man who has no moral fortitude or integrity whatsoever!!
That's the biggest nothing I've read about Turdblossom all week, except for the nazi pig comment. I'll give that one to him. But the editor of
Human Events Online also describes Mr. Turdblossom his own self as
"a man who has devoted the past five-plus years to serving the American people" - no surpirses there. Although I'm certain that "serving" is a typo for "screwing", but they're pretty close - so no harm done. We all know what Mr. Turdblossom has been doing to the American people for the past five years.
The self professed right-wing blogger's conclusion?
Is Edwards, a probable 2008 presidential candidate, condoning this behavior of his wife and his fans? It would certainly appear that way.
You won't find a bigger supporter of free speech than myself, but when a candidate seeking office (which Edwards is bound to do) puts his name on something like he has with his blog, I believe he has a responsibility to uphold its reputation. In this case, both his reputation and the blog's suffer from cold-hearted liberal attacks.
That's the deal this time around guys. Anything you write at your favorite candidate's websites might be tagged and used as fodder against your guy or gal. Pols must take their lessons from Dean For America this time around and will be soundly and unfairly criticized for it. DFA showed that building a robust online forum has a huge upside, committed and informed supporters engaged in discussion. But this time around right-wing online talking point monkeys like Bluey are going to be oh so brutal.
Candidates who choose to build real blogs instead of plogs, blogs written by political staffers, will pay a price. Unless we call them on it, every step of the way.
This is my first baby step into that realm. Whoever you like in '08, go to bat for them. Start doing searches and go to these forums and put your two cents in. This particular example is way beyond the pale, but it's going to start happening more and more once we get through the mid-terms.
Fire it up.
UPDATE: Okay I caved in to poster pressure and changed the title. The original title for this thread was "Can't Edwards shut his wife up?"
