Would you like this on your blog?
The month of June is Torture Awareness Month, and NGOs including Amnesty International USA, Human Rights First, and Human Rights Watch
need your help with the
Torture Awareness Campaign.
A blogger alliance is being formed over at Bloggers Against Torture. To put your blog on the blogroll, all you need to do is commit to mentioning Torture Awareness Month on your blog. If you'd like some reciprocal-linking goodness, you can also put the blogroll on your site.
There has been growing evidence that the United States government is engaging systematically in the use of torture and inhuman treatment as part of the "war on terror." This is the kind of behaviour we'd expect from authoritarian regimes and tinpot dictatorships, whose citizens are oppressed and unable to protest their govt. But the US is still a democracy, which means its citizens are responsible for what their govt does. So how could this be happening? Clearly the citizens need to understand what's happening before they can protest it. Torture Awareness Month is a step towards this that bloggers can participate in. Together, we can help raise awareness about torture, and put an end to this horrific practice.
