I was going through the blogs, and someone attacked a comment I made over something completely meaningless to the argument I was making.
No, that's not what I cried over.
As most of you know, I work for John Laesch on his blog team. When my comment was attacked, I feared the worse. What if that person now thinks less of John? What if I just lost us a supporter?
Which led to, "What if we lose this race?"
Which led to, "What if the dems don't take back congress?"
Let me tell you, that's a scary thought.
I thought about our political climate lately. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the tensions with Iran, the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the tensions with South America.
I thought about what's happening here at home. The NSA wiretapping, phone companies selling our records, Medicare Part D, votes taking place in the dead of night, lobbyists, soaring gas prices, the general corruption of our leaders, budget cuts to private programs to fund tax cuts for the rich.
I have been trying to stay at least a little bit emotionally detatched from this race. I know it's going to be a close one. But, with all that's going on today, I can't do it. I am in this race 110%; heart, mind and soul.
We MUST win.
The Democrats MUST take back the house.
But, I think most importantly, we MUST get rid of Dennis Hastert.
He made the rules that a bill can't be passed without a majority of the majority. He authored Medicare Part D. He is responsible for the dead-of-night votes. He voted for legislation like HR 4437 and the PATRIOT Act when he, as speaker, does not even have to vote.
He is the administration's puppet. Even if the democrats take back the house, if we do not get rid of Dennis Hastert, he will continue to have much influence.
So, to answer the question of what I cried over: I realized just how important this race really is. It has nothing to do with politics. There are literally thousands, if not millions, of lives at stake in this race. Lives of our troops, of Iraqis, of Afghanis, of Iranians, maybe even ours. I fear for this country. The change has to start from the top, because they are the ones with the most power and influence. We can't vote out Bush or Cheney. So let's vote out number three.
We have a chance to make a difference. We have the chance to change the course of history. Let's make it happen.
