It has been amuding to read Atrios' string of posts (
here's the latest) making fun of what he calls the "six monthers."
The group of inside-the-beltway foreign policy gurus who have a rolling horizon for assessing the alleged success of the Iraq occupation. Every six months they say the sam thing: "The next six months will make or break our policy in Iraq."
Then, when the sox months is up, they say it again. Completely forgetting about, or wilfully ignoring what they said the previous 3 or 4 times.
Well...I have a proposal that may help alleviate the collective amnesia Washingtton gets every 180 days.
I call it the Iraq Corner Turning Toward Success Countdown Clock. If any of you have pithier names for it, by all means post them.
The idea is modeled after Howard Dean's famous baseball bat donations counter.
I propose using Tom Friedman's recent appearance on Hardball, where he once again proclaimed that the "next six months" will determine the success or failure of our Iraq policy as the starting point for my countdown clock.
In fact, I hope some enterprising programmer out there can create an HTML version of this akin to what us old skool bloggers used to have counting the number of days since Dubyah proclaimed we'd capture Osama Bin Laden "dead or alive."
Every progressive blog out there could then have this countdown clock prominently displayed.
Of course, this will prompt Friedman and others to declare that we simply don't know what will happen down the road. But this is devoutly to be wished! If these talking heads would simply declare they don't know jacks shit, and shut up, we'd all be better off.
