why does the mentality persist in america that everyone is out to get you? as a fan of '50s sci-fi movies and "the twilight zone" i'm aware that this theme of fear and paranoia has existed in america for quite some time.
but why?
why won't you children grow up? if there really is a monster under the bed it would have eaten you by now!
you live better materially than any other society in human history. so what are you afraid of?
why does your government continue to make enemies of countries that would prefer to be friends?
why are you afraid of china? your homes are filled with its products. do you think the chinese are plotting to come over and take them back?
you are fearful that you might have to share some of the world's resources with them.
but why?
are you frightened that by sharing, instead of your wife owning 20 pairs of shoes she'll only have 10, or that instead of 100s of cds you'll only be able to have 50? is this the nature of the fearfulness.
maybe, just maybe those who said 9/11/01 "changed everything" were wrong. perhaps the date that "changed everything" was 11/9/99.
that is the date the berlin wall fell.
and that marked the date when your security blanket was taken away. because now you have to share and compete with the billions who were living under a separate system. that separate system your american government was totally committed to destroying.
and now you have to share and compete.
could that have been, and still is, the reason for the fear and paranoia?
