I don't do investigative pieces. But this was fascinating: Diane Irey is running against Rep Murtha. She is
running a campaign seeking to 'put Murtha out to pasture' because (gasp!) he complained about Haditha.
So, is Diane just another uninterested war hawk?
More on the flip.
Irey sounded like an uncommon name, so, armed with Google, I went a-hunting. Diane's
webpage says she lives in Washington County, PA with her husband Bob.
Robert Irey? Perhaps.
Who might Robert Irey be? Well, there is this little contruction company called CLI Corp in Washington County PA, whose CEO is a Robert Irey.
Now, things get a little interesting - all based on if Robert Irey is Diane Irey's husband, Bob.
Search for CLI and Irey and you get this little gem from CorpWatch:
Stoffel's company, Wye Oak Technology, had a hard-to-get federal license allowing him to import weapons. His former schoolmate Robert Irey, head of a Canonsburg, Pa.-based firm called CLI Corp., had years of construction experience.
Together, according to the plan, the international arms dealer and the small-town engineering company would get Iraqi military contracts and make lots of money.
So, lets recap: If Robert Irey, CEO of CLI is the Bob who is Diane's husband, we now have Diane Irey running against Murtha and berating him for his Haditha comments while her husband planned to make money from Iraq reconstruction in partnership with an arms dealer who was killed under mysterious circumstances in Iraq after being involved with a shadowy lebanese middleman.
Not that there is anything wrong with doing re-construction projects in Iraq, mind you.
You just cannot make this stuff up.
Will somebody more talented than I am please confirm (or deny) if Robert Irey, CEO of CLI is the husband of Diane Ireay, candidate for Congress against Murtha?
Pretty Please?
update - based on this (search for Irey on the page) it is reasonably certain that Robert Irey of CLI corp is indeed married to Diane Irey.
So, yes, Murtha's opponent is married to a man who went into partnership with an arms dealer who was later killed in Iraq.
Lovely.
