As time passes, the theory that the anthrax scare was a Bush Administration operation becomes increasingly plausible.
I've read a lot of posts here and elsewhere that claim that the 9/11 attacks were a Bush Administration conspiracy. I have always been dismissive of these theories, and still am--not so much because I would put it past them, but because the attacks were too expensive to the US economy, and legitimate culprits are obvious. And besides, of all the potential victims out there, the last ones Bush would choose would be Wall Street.
However, it is WAY too interesting how the anthrax attacks of 2001 have dropped off of the radar screen. Let's briefly review the timeline. BushCo clearly came into office with the intention of invading Iraq. The 9/11 attacks occur. BushCo still wanted to invade Iraq, but Afghanistan was the culprit, and had to be dispensed of firts. But how could Iraq convincingly be implicated in 9/11?
Within days, the first wave of anthrax attacks occur. There was little rhyme or reason to the pattern of attacks--a media figure here and there, the offices of Senators Daschle and Leahy (interesting!), a few other poor schmucks. There was massive speculation then about Iraq--I mean after all, Iraq was well known to have worked with anthrax. What if Iraq shared its anthrax and other technologies with Al Qaeda???!!! Iraq...Iraq...Iraq....
The seed was planted, the smoking gun was identified...(insert your own cliche here). CLEARLY we needed to invade Iraq to ensure that Al Qaeda was not provided with these technologies!
Then...the anthrax attacks stop. The FBI investigation finds out that the anthrax used was in fact a strain developed by the US bioweapons program. The investigation has gone nowhere since James Hatfill was trotted out as a scapegoat, then apparently cleared. In the end, only five people died, but a nation had been terrified, and BushCo had its war. And you haven't heard one utterance from BushCo on the subject since that time--NOT EVEN in defense of the Iraq War!!!!!
Let's see now--the Bush administration had the motive. They were practically the ONLY ones in the world who possessed the weapon. Who could have pulled the trigger, i.e. mailed the letters? Well, how about an Iraqi expatriate invested in the overthrow of Saddam, who was subsequently smuggled out or "terminated with extreme prejudice"? (To avoid any patriotic pangs of guilt, deathbed confessions, etc.) Does anybody here think that they wouldn't have done it, for, say, eithical reasons? (Just kidding!!!)
I don't have any great investigative insights to add here, just my thoughts and a couple of links below. It seems to me that as time passes with the Bush Administration, what once seemed improbable becomes entirely plausible--and this conspiracy theory now seems downright likely. I mean, why
not? If it weren't for the fact that Iraq didn't cooperate and the war has gone to shit, we probably wouldn't even be taking about it.
