For years I've been wondering when someone is going to run against Tom Herlihy, the incumbent Republican Senator for my district, the CT 8th. Tom does the bare minimum; he coasts by in order to keep getting himself reelected but never really produces any tangible results. He ignores half the district and instead focuses on those areas that get him elected. He has done virtually nothing to help stem the tide of lost jobs after parts of the district lost some important employers. He is virtually uncontactable and does not respond to constituent queries. Enter Steven Berry. He became involved in politics and advocacy after his daughter was killed by a drunk driver in 2002. He became president of MADD and lobbied the General Assembly to pass what became known as "Stephanie's Law" (after his daughter), legislation which mandates drug and alcohol testing in cases where someone is killed or injured in a car accident.
Steve stands for everything Tom doesn't; accountability, conferring with constituents, and giving back to the district. Tom Herlihy has treated the voters of the 8th district as if they were mere peasants good only for re-electing him to office. He has produced nothing of value in return; taxes are up, schools are still not receiving the funding they need, and open space is being filled with developments on a daily basis. The man is the Deputy Minority Leader, you think he could produce some results! Steve Berry is the type of person the 8th District needs. Even if you don't live in CT, go check out Steve's website at

This race is targeted by the State Democratic Party so we're going to get lots of attention, and with help from Dems and Progressives all across CT and the nation we can unseat Tom Herlihy and put another chip in the corrupt Republican establishment.
