We have always been at war with Eastasia.... That seems to be the latest motion by the Senate, in their
"We have always been at war with terrorists" bill.
I'm sure the great people here at Kos have already covered the "debate" over Iraq in the senate but I feel like throwing in my two cents. (I'm hoping it's tax free)
The strategy seems to be; if we can't make the people believe it to be true, we'll legislate it to be true. A move on the order of 1984. Next thing they'll legislate that it's an act of treason to point out that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Call me paranoid, but I really wouldn't doubt it.
To me this seems even more insidious than simple political posturing to paint the Dems as being soft on terror. Like the war on science, which probably started off innocently enough as the Right giving some concessions to their religious base, I see the possibility of this growing legs and going much further than even the Repugs foresee.
Most likely they'll find new uses for this childish and insipid piece of legislation. A political pry-bar here, mud to throw at the Left Wing there. Meanwhile, We The People, get screwed as we're dragged deeper and deeper into the middle a civil war that we've legally tied ourselves to.
If I could define Repugs in one word it would be 'poor-planning'. Yes they seem to be quite good a planning strategies to expand and ensure their own power, but it's all sort term, knee jerk planning like a cheep plastic hammer. It'll work great for a little while before breaking and taking an eye out.
I don't know. I'll stick around for the 2006 elections, maybe even the 2008's too. But if things don't turn around... I just don't know. Even if responsible Republicans managed to take over, I'd be happy. (GASP!!) it doesn't need to be Dems, half the Dems seem to be almost as bad... Evil-lite, if you will. Hell, a benevolent dictatorship sounds pretty good with the way things are going.
I don't know how this slid into a rant, but I guess that means it's time to wrap it up.
