I wrote a bitch fest last night about how badly I feel that I can't go. And my reason? Because I'm a single mom. I found that I'm not the only parent who can't go and that the efforts of organizers to help with child care just didn't go anywhere for reasons of cost and possibly liability. Then, a ray of light. Someone suggested co-op child care. Wanna follow over to the mommy side?
It's like this. I can't go unless I bring my 12 year old. I'm not excited about using an in room care service primarily because I don't know the people and haven't had the best luck with services. I'd like to find a couple of other moms or dads who'd like to go but can't for child care reasons who are willing to go now if we're able to pool child care responsibilities. I'm willing even to pay for child care as long as my kid isn't alone.
So, here's my request:
Are you interested in going to YearlyKos with your kid?
Are you willing to opt in for a few hours of child care?
Anyone interested in sharing a sitter?
Anyone interested in sharing a room?
We will need at least 5 parents and I'd say no more than 10 kids among us to do this. If you're interested, post a comment with an e-mail (you know the blahblah (at) (dot) com style or maybe the blahblah no spam @.com type).
Only way we can do this is to talk to each other and figure out how we can help each other. And to be clear, yeah, I know that there are pedophiles looking for this sort of arrangement, but my 12 year old is 5'9" and can kick their ass, so I'm not so worried about it. I'm more worried about her being bored and lonely in a place that should be fun for her.
Anyone up for this?
UPDATE Okay, so there seems to be some interest. My e-mail (to reach me on this if you can help or want to go with your kids and need this help) is

Drop me a line and if there is enough interest, I'm going and we'll work it out.
