What is Iraqsturbation?
Iraqsturbation is the term we may use to describe a Bush Administration tactic: the consistent regurgitation of utter and absolute nonsense, with blatant disregard for human life, suffering, honor or reason, in order to justify the invasion and continued occupation of Iraq by the United States of America.
Iraqsturbation goes something like this:
*Liberals are cut-and-run softies on national defense
*Liberals sympathize with the terrorists
*Liberals can't protect you
Iraqsturbation infects, engages and confuses into submission much of the public psyche simply by repeating itself, over and over again, at the loudest volume possible... but there isn't any evidence to support it. In fact, Iraqsturbation itself is the REAL cut-and-run strategy.
Iraqsturbation makes me mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore. Here's my, plan... I'm hoping you will join me.
First, identify a few good journalists. It's hard to do, with the right-wing infestation of our MSM. But it isn't impossible. And I think there's one at each of the three major networks: Anderson Cooper at CNN, Keith Olbermann at MSNBC and Shep over at Fox (yes, I believe there is a real journalist at Fox).
Second, flood them, on a daily basis, with the THREE most important topics that need to be explored relentlessly (but currently are not) with regards to the Iraq War in front of our national audience. We must do this until the journalists respond and, little by little, build a DISCOURSE that can and will compete with Iraqsturbation.
In my estimation, here are the three most important topics that must be explored:
1. The think tank known as "Project For the New American Century" is a neo-conservative group, having employed a plethora of top Bush Administration officials PRIOR to 9/11 and the Bush Administration itself. One of its goals was to "Democratize" the Middle East, among other regions of the world. Don't these facts make the invasion of Iraq seem suspiciously like a pre-exisiting, ideologically-based item on the Bush Administration checklist? Isn't this sentiment reinforced by how rapidly the Bush Administration ABANDONED the WOT and Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan in favor of the "low-hanging fruit" that was Iraq? Do these questions not shed doubt on whether or not the WMD debacle was actually a "failure of intelligence?"
2. History has taught us that destablizing a nation at just the wrong time - or any time - for larger, abstract ideological purposes (like those of "Project For the New American Century") leads only to insurgency, chaos and death. Exhibit A: Cambodia in 1975; Exhibit B: Bush-The-First NOT invading Iraq in order to avoid exactly the mess we're currently in. Has not the invasion and destabalization of Iraq by the current Bush Administration created an insurgency where one did not previously exist, not to mention a self-fulling prophecy of a terrorist haven and cause celebe?
3. With all due respect, does not the tactic of Iraqsturbation, a partisan attack strategy, clearly indicate that the Bush Administration and its pro-Iraq-War punditry are incapable of problem-solving with regard to Iraq and so fall-back to the position of demonizing their critics? Are demonization of critics and slanderous political positioning acceptable proxies for solutions in Iraq? Is not Iraqsturbation the TRUE cut-and-run strategy?
Now, will you join me in emailing and faxing to our three real journalists on a daily basis until our individual voices merge into a discourse?
Let's do it!
