Governor Ed Rendell should be purged from the Democratic Party. In the
the words of a fellow Kosian, "REndell is an incompetent moronic idiot who happens to be extremely politically savy. He's more of an economic conservative and Social Liberal, which I don't support." We cannot allow a dangerous mix of social liberalism and fiscal conservatism to survive in the Democratic Party. If Rendell wins in 2006 he may influence redistricting in 2010 and help elect Democratic Congressmen! What is worse is that Governor Rendell has misused his power and influence as Governor for his own personal gain. In 2003 he signed legislation that relaxed helmet-wearing requirements for motorcyclists. Just a few days ago, Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a dangerous crash made all the worse by the lack of a helmet. All because Ed Rendell,
a Philadelphia Eagle fan, claims that he just wanted to give adults like Roethlisberger choices. As discussed extensively
in another thread, individuals cannot be trusted to make good decisions! Only groups make good decisions!
Ed Rendell is just the tip of the "Libertarian Democrat" iceberg out to sink the USS Democratic Party. Socially liberal and fiscally conservative Democrats, like DNC Chairman Howard Dean, are destroying the soul of the Democratic Party by trying to reach out and appeal to red-state voters through a "50 state strategy." As shown by Thomas Frank in "What's the Matter with Kansas," red-state voters are idiots and cannot make good decisions on who to vote for. They are stupid rednecks that vote against their own economic self interest, unlike many East and West coast wealthy liberals who vote for the Democratic Party against their own economic self interest.
We cannot win by trying to reach out to the citizens of red-states like Kansas. Although like all other red-states, Kansas was once solidly progressive and Democratic (voting Republican in 1940, 1944, and 1948 at the height of the New Deal), they are now fooled into thinking that social issues are more important than economic issues. Don't they know that man cannot live by bread alone, and also needs universal health care?
I know that some people will want solutions to our situation, so I'll give you some. We need to stop blaming the Democratic Party and its leadership for failure! It's not the fault of Democratic politicians that voters are stupid and don't realize that Democrats are the party that supports getting out of Iraq (13 out of 45 Democratic Senators agree!), or the party opposed to illegal wiretaps and the Patriot Act (One of the Democratic Senators supports censuring the President, the same that was the only one to hold out in opposing the Patriot Act!). Too many people who vote Republican don't understand that Democrats are NOT REPUBLICANS. Therefore, on any issue where they disagree with Bush and the Republicans, they must agree with the Democrats regardless of how the Democrats actually vote. See? We don't need to demand that our politicians actually vote in opposition to the Republicans, as long as they are NOT Republicans they are an alternative and people are stupid for not voting for them!
Except that we CAN continue to blame LIBERTARIAN DEMOCRATS for failure. Like Howard Dean, who cost John Kerry the election in 2004 by screaming. Howard Dean, who as Governor of Vermont supported the 2nd Amendment and therefore caused violence crime in New York, also opposed No Child Left Behind from the start, which means that like all other libertarians he wants to eliminate ALL schools and is opposed to learning AND education.
Another Libertarian Democrat who opposed NCLB and therefore all education was Governor Tony Knowles of Alaska, who lost his Senate bid in 2004 because he wasn't liberal enough. Just look at what Knowles wanted to do:
Knowles believes the No Child Left Behind law gives Washington DC too much control over Alaska's schools - and he will fight to restore that control to the parents, teachers, and students of Alaska. Knowles will go to Washington and eliminate the 1,200 pages of micromanagement in No Child Left Behind and make sure the law is fully funded. Knowles believes that each state should submit a responsible plan for standards, assessment and accountability for all students and schools.
He might as well be a Republican! And when faced with an option between two Republicans, the Republican always wins! That's why he lost, because he campaigned as a Republican. Despite the fact that he was pro-choice, supported stem cell research, opposed the Patriot Act, supported gay rights and was endorsed by the Human Rights Campaign, he is basically a REPUBLICAN because he disagrees with what liberalism is fundamentally about in one issue area--National government intervention in public education is ALWAYS GOOD unless it's done by a Republican. We have to be a big tent party that includes ALL LIBERALS and excludes anyone who isn't a liberal.
Think about what Libertarian Democrats want to do to the Democratic Party. They think that some voters in 2004 felt like John Kerry didn't offer much of an alternative to George W. Bush. George Bush brought us the Iraq War, huge budget deficits, and the Patriot Act. It doesn't matter that John Kerry didn't come out swinging on those issues and said that he supported the Patriot Act. What matters is that anyone who disagreed with Bush should have voted against him and voted for John Kerry, even if John Kerry had the same opinion. ANYONE who voted for Bush in 2004 is an idiot, all 51% of the 2004 voters! Libertarian Democrats want to reach out to the 51% of voters who are idiots! Now that most Bush supporters from 2004 regret voting for Bush and disapprove of him, we don't have to reach out to them! We just will win on default without campaigning at all! Which is why people like Howard Dean are stupid, because they are wasting money by actually campaigning in red states!
Jesse Jackson once said, "It takes two wings to fly." And that's exactly right! We need two wings to the Democratic Party, but both wings need to be LIBERAL and absolutely the same! People like Markos, a LIBERTARIAN DEMOCRAT that wants to destroy the Democratic Party, seem to have a crazy idea that the Democratic Party should have two wings that have different views on some issues, but still work together for shared goals. That makes about as much sense as the Republican Party's strategy of uniting two groups that have almost nothing in common, economic conservatives and social conservatives, which has worked for them but obviously won't work for Democrats. Why? Because liberals and libertarians actually agree on social and foreign policy issues! The Republican strategy works because the two groups have nothing in common. Having liberals and libertarians work together will fail, because they agree on some issues and disagree on others. Just imagine how the Democratic Party would operate if we were united on social issues and foreign policy, and had two wings--one more fiscally conservative and one more fiscally liberal. It would DESTROY the Democratic Party to be so open and accepting of alternative viewpoints.
You might not believe what I am saying here. You should. I know everything about libertarianism because I once knew a guy in college who read Ayn Rand. Republicans and the right wing media always are out attacking liberals and Democrats as socialists who follow Karl Marx. I know this isn't true. But when I attack all libertarians as idiots who love Ayn Rand, I know I'm right because I once knew a libertarian in college.
I also know that libertarians are extremists who will never compromise on the issues. I know this because 40% of people who hold libertarian views voted for John Kerry in 2004, which means that the HUGE MAJORITY of 60% voted for George Bush and are therefore idiots. Instead of going after libertarians, we need to focus on socially conservative, economically liberal people--also known as populists. John Kerry won the support of 40% of populists in 2004, which is almost a majority and shows we can win them over if only we tried harder! And because I demand absolute loyalty to a single ideology within the Democratic Party, it's not possible for one wing of the party to focus on uniting liberals and libertarians in somes areas, and the other wing to focus on uniting liberals and populists in other areas. Libertarian Democrats want to try to reach out to every state. That's stupid, we only need to focus on the Blue States and a few purple states like Ohio. That's the strategy that has always worked for us in the past!
